 What is Windows 11?

Windows 11 is the next version of Windows, designed for hybrid work. Windows 11 was built to help employees and teams focus on what’s important: getting the job done and efficiently communicating and collaborating. It delivers the security and management needed for hybrid work. An evolution of Windows 10, Windows 11 is fresh, but also consistent for employees and IT. It can be deployed alongside Windows 10 devices without interrupting the business.  

 Is Windows 11 better than Windows 10?

Windows 11 is faster and more battery efficient, and it improves the ability to multitask. The exact performance will depend on the specific hardware specifications of the user’s device.  

 Can my device upgrade to Windows 11?

If your device meets the minimum hardware requirements, it should be fully compatible with Windows 11. The PC Health Check app will tell you if your PC is eligible to upgrade to Windows 11. 

 What are the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11?

The table below summarizes the minimum hardware requirements for running Windows 11:  

Processor 

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC). 

RAM 

4 gigabytes (GB). 

Storage 

64 GB or larger storage device. 

System firmware 

UEFI, Secure Boot capable. For information on how your PC might be able to meet this requirement, read Windows 11 and Secure Boot

TPM 

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0. You may need to enable TPM 2.0 on your PC to meet this requirement. 

Graphics card 

Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver. 

Display 

High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel. 

Internet connection 

Internet access is required to perform updates and to download and take advantage of some features. 

 Can I install Windows 11 on my personal device?

 Do I need to backup my data, settings, and apps before updating to Windows 11?

While the Windows 11 upgrade process will migrate all your data and settings, backing up your data to OneDrive for Business is always a good idea.  

 What is security like in Windows 11?

In the most complex cybersecurity environment we’ve ever seen, security has never been more important. Windows 11 provides a Zero Trust-ready operating system to protect data and access across devices. Microsoft has worked closely with their OEM and silicon partners to raise security baselines to meet the needs of the evolving threat landscape and the new hybrid work world. Windows 11 is secure by design, with new built-in security requirements that will add protection from the chip to the cloud, while enabling productivity and new experiences. 

 What are the accessibility updates for Windows 11?

The Ease of Access Settings have been rebranded and redesigned into Accessibility to make it easier for everyone to find Windows Accessibility features. There are specific improvements for people with vision, hearing, and mobility disabilities, including new contrast themes and new captions themes. Improved information architecture for Narrator settings in Windows 11 makes it easier for people with low and no vision to work with Windows. There are different sounds for light and dark themes, as well as a new Windows start-up sound. Lastly, accessibility is available in more scenarios and integrated into hosted apps, making plugins or IT help unnecessary.
