Installing Access/Publisher utilizing the exclusion groups

Occasionally users have need of Access and/ or Publisher. And although all Users have licensing for these products under the standard O365 licensing, we do not want to bloat devices unnecessarily. For this reason, we have a separate install for the full O365 suite including Access/Publisher.

Because the standard O365 install is pushed to all devices we have to add the User and their Devices(s) to exclusion groups. Otherwise, Intune will reinstall the standard O365 uninstalling Access/Publisher

Be sure to get the Users name and the name of their device(s)

You will then add the User to the Entra group “O365 Install - Publisher/Access Users”

You will add the Device(s) to the Entra group “O365 Install - Publisher/Access Devices”

This will accomplish two things:

  1. As long as the O365 applications are closed, Intune will install the full suite, including Access/Publisher

  2. It will keep Intune from trying to reinstall the standard O365 and removing Access/Publisher
