Requesting Application Consent in Microsoft Azure
When you try to use an application that needs access to your Seattle University (or organizational) data, you may see a consent prompt. This happens because the app is asking for permission to read or use certain information from your account.
What You Will See
1. Consent Prompt
When you first sign in to the app, a window appears similar to this:
App name (e.g., “Contoso Expense Tracker”)
Publisher (whether the app is published and verified)
Requested Permissions — listed clearly (e.g., “Read your profile,” “Access your calendar,” “Send emails on your behalf”).
Options at the bottom:
Accept – grants permission.
Cancel – closes the request without granting access.
If the app requires administrator approval, you’ll also see a message like:
“Approval required. This app requires your admin’s approval to use:
[Permission list].
Ask your admin to grant permission to this app before you can use it.”
2. Submitting a Consent Request to an Admin
If admin approval is required, you’ll see a Request approval button. Clicking this will:
Send a notification to IT administrators.
Show you a confirmation that your request has been submitted.
You may also see a text box where you can enter a justification or note to your administrator about why you need the app.
3. Status Updates
After submitting your request:
You’ll receive an on-screen confirmation like:
“Your request has been sent to an administrator. You’ll be notified once a decision has been made.”
Depending on configuration, you might also receive an email notification once the request is approved or denied.
Example User Experience Flow
You log into Contoso Expense Tracker for the first time.
A consent prompt appears:
Contoso Expense Tracker is requesting the following permissions:
Read your basic profile
Read your OneDrive files
Because this app needs organizational approval, the Request approval button appears instead of Accept.
You click Request approval.
You see a confirmation screen:
“Your request has been submitted to an administrator.”
Later, once IT reviews the request, you’ll either be able to log in normally (if approved) or you’ll receive a message that the app cannot be used (if denied).
Key Notes for Users
Not every app can be approved — requests are reviewed based on security, privacy, and business needs.
Providing a clear justification in the request form will help administrators review your request more quickly.
If your request is urgent, you may also contact the IT Service Desk with your ticket number.
