Import iCal Items into Outlook (Mac and PC)
We’ll assume you’ve already saved the .ics/iCal file somewhere easy (Desktop or Downloads)
For Mac Users
Outlook Desktop App
Open Outlook ➝ switch to Calendar (left sidebar).
Open Finder to your Desktop or Downloads.
Drag the .ics file from Finder onto the Outlook calendar - either onto the date grid or onto a calendar name in the left sidebar.
If prompted, choose which calendar to add it to, then Add/Save.
Alternate (no drag-drop): In Finder, right-click the .ics ➝ Open With ➝ Microsoft Outlook ➝ in Outlook, review the event(s) and Add to Calendar.
Legacy Outlook for Mac (if you use “Legacy Outlook”)
In Outlook, switch off “New Outlook” (toggle in the top-right) to enter Legacy.
Go to File → Import… ➝ select iCalendar (.ics) ➝ Continue.
Choose your .ics file from Desktop/Downloads ➝ Import.
Pick the destination calendar when asked.
Outlook on the Web
Visit http://outlook.office.com , sign in, open Calendar.
Select Add calendar ➝ Upload from file.
Choose file (your .ics) ➝ choose a destination calendar ➝ Import.
For PC Users
Outlook Desktop App
Option 1: Drag & Drop
Open Outlook and go to the Calendar view.
Open File Explorer and navigate to the location of your .ics file (Desktop or Downloads).
Drag the .ics file into your Outlook calendar window.
Outlook will open the calendar events for review—select Save & Close to add them to your calendar.
Option 2: Import via File Menu
In Outlook, click the File tab (upper left).
Select Open & Export → Import/Export.
In the wizard, choose Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file (.vcs) → click Next.
Browse to the folder where your .ics file is saved, select it, and click OK.
Choose whether to:
Open as New Calendar (creates a separate calendar that you can overlay with your main one), or
Import (adds events directly into your existing calendar).
Outlook on the Web
Open a browser and sign into http://outlook.office.com .
Go to Calendar (icon on the left sidebar).
Select Add calendar → Upload from file.
Browse to your .ics file, select it, then choose which calendar to import into.
Click Import.
