Integrating Google Calendars into Microsoft Outlook

Integrating Google Calendars into Microsoft Outlook

This article describes multiple methods for integrating Google Calendars into Microsoft Outlook, with varying results. I have been unable to find a first-party method for integrating the calendar into the Seattle University account’s primary calendar in a state that allows two-way editing in a single calendar.

Method 1 is the preferred method that provides the most functionality with no major drawbacks other than requiring Outlook on the web.

Instructions

Please expand the method below that best meets your requirements:

This method will add your Cornish Google account’s calendar to the list of calendars you see in Outlook on the web only. This will not provide the same access in the Outlook desktop client.

The calendar added via this method will be editable from Outlook on the web.

  1. Browse to outlook.office.com and sign in using your Seattle University account if you aren’t already.

  2. Click the Calendar tab, then click Add Calendar, and Add Personal Calendar

  3. Select the option for Google

  4. You will be prompted to sign into a Google account, please sign into your Cornish provided Google account. If the process stalls out at this point, please make sure there are no separate pop-up windows waiting for you to authenticate or click continue.

  5. Allow ALL permissions, otherwise this process will not work correctly.

  6. After the sync process completes you will see the editable calendar added to Outlook

This method subscribes your Outlook client to the Google calendar, allowing a one-way sync of items added to that calendar from Google. This method does not allow editing the Google Calendar from Outlook, and the two calendars will remain separate in the client.

There is an additional method for integrating a Google calendar into Outlook, importing a .ics file from the Google Calendar, but I do not recommend it at this time. This method can be used to import the contents of that calendar into any of your calendars in Outlook, however there is no directional sync, and you may end up with duplicate events if your Google calendar is migrated during the Google Workspace Migration project.
