Included technology

LUI 202 is a computer lab classroom. The instructor station features an imac computer, blu-ray player, and loose HDMI cable laptop connection cable. All of these are connected to an automatic input switcher that sends the active video input to the projector and sends the respective audio input through the mixer to the speakers at the front of the room. There is a remote control to power on and control the projector.

These instructions focus on basic functionality of the computer, laptop connection, projector, and computer audio.

Instructions

  • Start up or connect your desired device:

    • If using the classroom imac, wake it up by pressing a key on the keyboard or wiggling the mouse.

      • If the computer doesn’t wake up, press the power button on the backside of the computer in the bottom right corner (bottom left corner if facing the screen and reaching around)

    • If using a laptop, make sure it is on and awake, then plug the Laptop HDMI cable (labeled as such) into the HDMI port on your laptop, or into an adapter connected to the laptop if your laptop does not have an HDMI port.

    • In most cases, the image from the device you are actively using (imac, laptop, or blu-ray) will be projected on screen after a few moments

      • If a different device is projecting on screen, try turning if off

      • If your device’s image still isn’t showing on the projector, please see this section

  • Please see Common Issues if these steps do not lead you to the desired result

  • Please remember to turn off the projector and log out of the computer when finished

Projector won’t turn on

  • Change the batteries in the remote, if possible, and try to turn the projector on again

Projector image is not showing content from my desired input

  • First, Make sure the desired input device is powered on and awake. Give the projector a brief moment to connect with the device

  • Next, check whether the projector will show content from another input. This will help locate the source of the issue.

    • For example, if you are using your laptop, try turning on and using the imac or the blu ray player.

    • If another device will display on the projector, then the issue lies with the input device or it’s connection to the input switcher (see next list item). If neither of these display on the projector either, skip to the next section.

  • Check the HDMI cable connection to the device, if able

    • Make sure the HDMI connection to the imac, laptop, or blu-ray player is secure, as well as the HDMI connections on the back of the input switcher

    • the input switcher is a small black unit on a shelf in the equipment rack next to the instructor desk that should have 4 total HDMI cords plugged into it

    • it may be easier to check all cable connections to the input switcher rather than figure out which cable is the correct one

  • If using a windows laptop, log in, then Press [🪟] + [P] keys on your keyboard to check the display output mode. If it is not selected already, we recommend checking the “duplicate” setting to see if the projector display mirrors your laptop’s screen.

  • Check the projector input: The projector should be set to an HDMI input.

    • Try both HDMI1 and HDMI2 buttons on the remote

    • we recommend checking projector inputs after trying further troubleshooting steps if the problem persists, unless you can see on the projector which HDMI input has a cable plugged into it

    • further steps will not work if the projector has been switched off of the correct input.

  • If able, check the HDMI connections in the back of the input switcher, as well as the HDMI wall plate connection.

Projector doesn’t show the same content as my computer screen (mac)

Mac os allow the user to have two separate desktops when using multiple displays. If you find the computer in this configuration, and you prefer to have your computer screen and projector showing the same thing, we recommend trying the following :

Log into your profile, then use the shortcut [Command] + [fn] + [F1] to switch to mirrored displays

  • If this doesn’t work, try [Command] + [F1]

Log in, then Press [🪟] + [P] keys on your keyboard to check the display output mode. If it is not selected already, we recommend checking the “duplicate” setting to see if the projector display mirrors your laptop’s screen.
