Components

The sound systems in MCC 104, 107, and 109 are controlled by a mixer that sends one or more audio signals to the speakers installed in the room. Each mixer has an 3.5mm phone jack (aka “aux cord”) to connect a phone, laptop, tablet, or portable music player. Lightning and USB-C adapters (aka “dongles”) are included to connect a smartphone or tablet without a headphone jack.

  1. Before doing anything else, turn the knobs labeled Master Volume and Aux Volume all the way to 0 to avoid sending unwanted sounds to the speakers.

  2. Make sure the indicator light next to the Power Button is lit up. If not, press it to power on the mixer.

    1. If the mixer doesn’t power on, please see (INSERT LINK)

  3. Make sure the Black and Red jacks of the Aux cord are plugged into channel inputs 3 and 4, respectively (labeled Aux cord), as shown above.

    1. We request that people leave the cords plugged into the mixer as pictured so the equipment works in a predictable way for others

  4. Plug the other end of the aux cord into your phone, laptop, or music player

    1. Most modern smartphones will require a lightning (for some iphone/ipad models) or USB-C adapter to connect the aux cord to the charging port. (see image below for examples)

    2. We recommend plugging in the device with its channel knob turned all the way down, to avoid unwanted noises playing through the speakers

  1. Make sure your device is un-muted and has its internal volume level turned up at least halfway

  2. Turn the Master Volume knob clockwise to the small arrow on the right side

  3. Start playing audio on your connected device, then turn the channel 3/4 knob (labeled Aux volume) clockwise until the music plays from the speakers at the desired volume.

    1. Please turn the knob slowly to avoid playing too loud before you are able to react.

    2. Pay attention to the volume meter lights (located below the power button on the mixer) and avoid playing music loud enough to light the uppermost lights, as this can distort the sound and potentially damage the speakers.

    3. If you don’t hear anything after these steps, please see Common Issues section.

  4. When finished, please turn down the channel 3/4 knob all the way before unplugging your device to avoid clicks and pops
