Encryption Check - Mac

Step-by-step

  1. Click the Apple symbol at the top left of the screen

2. Click System Preferences in the pull down menu. (macOS Ventura: “System Settings”)

3. Click the Security & Privacy tab to the right on the top line of the System Preferences window (macOS Ventura: “Privacy & Security” on the left-hand side)

4. Click on the FileVault tab. (macOS Ventura: FileVault is found toward the bottom of the right-hand pane)

5. This window will tell you whether the machine is encrypted or not. If FileVault is “turned on” for you system, then the computer is encrypted. This is required for Seattle University computers for security; please be sure to keep a backup copy of your files using either OneDrive or Time Machine.
