How to Install One of the Softphone Options

ITS supports two softphone products, Cisco Jabber & Cisco IP Communicator, that extend SeattleU phone service to certain computer and/or mobile device platforms. Softphone applications require administrator access when installing on Windows or Mac computers. Both softphone applications provide the following services based on the user's office phone number:

  • receive calls made to your SeattleU phone number

  • make calls from your SeattleU phone number and display that number in Caller ID

  • put calls on hold

  • access your voicemail to listen to messages, delete messages, or change your voicemail greeting

If you require additional assistance after reading through the provided instructions, please fill out the Phone Support Form. For information on how to install one of our softphone options, please reference the grid below.

Cisco Jabber

Jabber is a softphone application that turns your computer into your Seattle University telephone. The Jabber client is downloaded onto the device and allows incoming and outgoing calls to and from your SeattleU telephone number on that device. When placing calls from Jabber on your computer, your Seattle University telephone number is displayed as the caller ID.

  • Available for Windows 7 or later, Mac OS 10.11 or later, iPhone, and Android Smartphones. Android tablets and iPads are not supported.

  • Supports one phone line. Multiple line support may be added in the future.

  • Connects to our phone system directly over the internet. No VPN required.

  • Installation on Windows or Mac OS requires a USB headset.

  • Most campus phone numbers allocated to an individual, as opposed to a department or call center, have been preconfigured for a Windows or Mac OS Jabber softphone. If your extension is on thelist of extensions configured for Jabber (updated monthly), you can proceed to install Jabber for Windows or MacOS if you meet the requirements listed in the installation documents below. If your extension is not on the list, please fill out the Phone Support Form.
