These file-level options are accessible in Microsoft 365 office apps, via the Protect Document menu.
Open a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document
Click File > Info > Protect Document
Choose the option that’s right for you!
ITS Pro Tip: “Always Open Read-Only” doesn’t prevent editing, but it does ensure that when a person first opens a file they are aware it is in Read-only format. A recipient can choose to open an editable copy instead. To restrict editing, use the “Restrict Editing” option.
