Update Legacy (Basic) Authentication for Microsoft Office
When legacy authentication is disabled, then accessing email through an old version of Outlook on a Windows or Mac device may not work. You must follow the steps below to setup your environment to support modern authentication.
Instructions
Option 1 - Install newer version of Office
If you have an older version of Outlook installed on your machine. A newer version of Office needs to be installed.
Lookup your version of Office
You can follow these instructions to lookup your version of Office
If you have Office 2016, Office 2019, or Office 365, then everything should be fine
These would be considered version 16 or higher
If you have Office 2013 or older, then you need to install a newer version of Office
These would be considered version 15 or lower
Determine if this device provided by SU
If so, then please submit a ticket to the ITS Services Desk at servicedesk@seattleu.edu and request that a newer version of Office be installed on your work machine.
If not, then this is a personal device, and you can follow these instructions to install the latest version of Office.
Option 2 - Outlook on the web
Your SU email can always be accessed through Outlook on the web
Open a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.)
Sign in using your SU email address
