Can I connect my TV/game console/streaming device to SeattleU wifi?

This is an informative article about connecting Streaming devices to the SeattleU wired network.

Instructions

Streaming devices, including TVs and game consoles, perform best when connected to the wired network. We recommend you connect such devices to the SeattleU wired network in your reshall room. Every SeattleU reshall room has at least one wired jack for each occupant.

Please review https://www.seattleu.edu/media/information-technology-services-/files/network-amp-phones/ResHallWiredNetworkJacks.pdf to understand which jacks to use. The Yobi and Vi Hilbert have wireless internet provided by others thus streaming devices might work on wifi in those buildings.

SU-secure is an enterprise wireless network that requires authenticating with a valid SeattleU username and password. In addition the device must be able to accept a security certificate. Few, if any, smart TVs or Internet of Things (IoT) devices meet these requirements for 802.1x authentication. Such devices are incompatible with SU-secure.

If the device includes a browser you can attempt to use SU-visitor. Please review https://www.seattleu.edu/its/support/support-articles/wireless-network-connect-to-su-visitor.html to understand the requirements for SU-visitor. The device will have wireless internet for up to 12 hours, after which you must repeat the browser-based registration process.

If a device cannot successfully connect/register using the SU-Visitor portal a request to register the device’s physical (MAC) address for SU-Visitor access is required. Registering a device will allow smart devices, such as IoT widgets, smart TV/speakers or game consoles, unauthenticated internet access. This access will be set to expire at the end of the current school year.
