How to Update MFA Settings

If a user needs to update their MFA settings, they can follow the steps below.  The Service Desk cannot update MFA for a user, only the user can update their settings.  The Service Desk can clear current MFA settings for the user to perform the first-time MFA registration again. If you forgot your device, please contact the Service Desk for help at servicedesk@seattleu.edu or by calling 206-296-5571.

  1. Open a browser and navigate to https://aka.ms/mfasetup

  2. The user will need to authenticate and complete a MFA prompt.

    1. If you are unable to sign in, please contact the Service Desk.

  3. Then, you are permitted to do the following:

    1. Select a default method by clicking the Change button next to the default sign-in method listed.

      1. Phone - call

      2. Phone - text

      3. Microsoft Authenticator - notification – recommended

      4. Authenticator app or hardware token - code

      5. Office phone

    2. Add a new sign-in method by clicking the “+ Add sign-in method“ button.

      1. Available options for MFA:

        1. Microsoft Authenticator - recommended

          1. Push notifications or 6-digit passcode

        2. Authenticator app

        3. Phone

          1. Text or calls

        4. Alternate phone

        5. Office phone (for staff and faculty only)

    3. Change or delete your existing sign in methods.

      1. Note: the security questions and email options are only available for self-service password reset.
