SharePoint Site Maintenance Best Practices
Important components for keeping a SharePoint Hub or Site organized
Maintenance:
Delete old documents or put them in an archive document library
Review sites to see how many documents they actually hold. Delete sites that only have a few documents unless they need unique permissions from already existing sites. Each site can have many document libraries. You do not need to create a new site unless you need a new permission set. Documents inherit permissions from the site.
Audit permissions:
Periodically, review permissions on your site. Remove students or employees who have left the position. If the employee is still at the university or a student’s account has been converted to an alumni account, they will still have access to the site.
Managing SharePoint permissions
You can reset site permissions -> Instructions to reset permissions
Site-Content:
To see everything within a site, click on site-content on the left navigation of a site. Add document libraries instead of new sites unless different permissions are required. As a reminder, documents inherit the permissions set at the site level.
