Document and Email Encryption

These guides outline how to encrypt documents and messages in Microsoft 365.

Outlook Desktop Clients (both pc and mac)

  1. Click ‘New Email

  2. On the toolbar, find and click ‘Sensitivity

     

  3. Click ‘SU - Encrypt’ for people with Seattle University email addresses. An additional option called ‘External - Encrypt’ may also appear for sending to people who do not have a Seattle University email address.

     

  4. You should now see an encryption disclaimer above the send button.

     

  5. Compose your email and send.

Outlook on the Web

  1.  Click ‘New Message

  2. Find and click ‘Sensitivity

     

  3. Click ‘SU - Encrypt’ for people with Seattle University email addresses. An additional option called ‘External - Encrypt’ may also appear for sending to people who do not have a Seattle University email address.

     

  4. You should now see an encryption disclaimer above the send button

     

Office Documents (desktop and web)

 

  1. Find and click ‘Sensitivity

  2. Click ‘SU - Encrypt’ for people with Seattle University email addresses. An additional option called ‘External - Encrypt’ may also appear for sending to people who do not have a Seattle University email address.

  3. You will now see a green checkmark next to the option you selected.

 

Outlook for Mobile

  1. Create new message

  2. Click the elipses () at the bottom of the screen, above the keyboard.

  3. Click ‘Add Sensitivity

     

  4. Click ‘SU - Encrypt’ for people with Seattle University email addresses. An additional option called ‘External - Encrypt’ may also appear for sending to people who do not have a Seattle University email address.

     

  5. If you go back into Sensitivity, you can now either remove the label or confirm it is being applied by noting its’ checkmark.
